The Burning Spring

By Charbel Sader

The Arab spring is the Phoenix rising

from a million voices on the streets.

In summer’s heat it transformed into fire

fueling war machines.

The Arab spring is anticipated

and cared for like the seeds of tomorrow

but planted in sullen soils, twisted

in the moment it sprouted.

The Arab spring is magma breaking

the rusted crust of fear.

Igniting and consuming winter’s regimes,

like burning coals it turns to ash.
